6 Tips On What To Wear For Maternity Photos

You’ve just booked your first ever maternity photoshoot and you’re already mentally sorting through your wardrobe wondering what to wear and scrolling the internet for ideas. It’s difficult enough trying to figure out what to wear on a regular day, never mind for a maternity shoot. I am a professional photographer located in Orlando, Florida and I am here for you with some tips on what to wear for your maternity photos.

#1 Solid Colors

Your baby bump is the main subject and the most important part of your photoshoot. You don’t want anything to take away from that. Patterns, stripes, or multi-colored outfits can be distracting. If you feel more comfortable wearing patterns, you could wear a patterned shawl or jacket. Your photographer will help you pose so that your bump isn’t hidden.

#2 Maxi Dresses

Maxi dresses and summer dresses are perfect for maternity photos because they are both form fitting and flowy. They are snug in just the right places and are comfy at the bottom. Not only are they cute, but they compliment your baby bump.

#3 Neutral & Soft Colors

Neutral colors are a great option for your maternity photos, especially if you are doing an outdoor shoot. Earth tones, soft pinks, and baby blues make you look elegant and soft. If you want to really stand out then choose a white outfit. White dresses are timeless and look absolutely beautiful.

#4 Textured Clothing

Textured clothing items are perfect if you want to add a little dimension or something extra to your look without distracting from your baby bump. Texture is a pretty alternative to patterns and stripes, and just like white dresses, it’s a timeless look.

#5 Fitted Clothing

You’ll want to accent your baby bump as much as possible for your photos, so a night fitted dress or shirt is perfect. Don’t wear anything that makes you feel completely uncomfortable though.

#6 Take A Backup Outfit

It isn’t expected of you, but if you feel more comfortable taking two outfits then by all means do so. Your happiness is important to a good photographer. Don’t worry about being a burden. You’re not. This photoshoot is all about you. This is your special moment.

At the end of the day, your happiness should come first. The more comfortable you feel the more confident you’ll feel, which will then show in your photos. If dresses aren’t your thing, you absolutely you don’t have to wear one. There are plenty of beautiful maternity tops and pants out there. Remember: Solid colors, earth tones, soft colors, and tight fitting work best but either way, a good photographer will make you look good whatever you wear.
