The Best Places for Family Photography Around Dr Phillips, Florida
Looking for the perfect location for family photography in Dr Phillips, Florida? From Cypress Grove Park to Celebration and Kissimmee Lakefront, here's a guide to the best photo locations, what to wear, and the best time of day for beautiful family portraits.
If you're looking for family photography in Dr Phillips, Florida, one of the biggest questions is usually, "Where should we take our photos?"
The good news is you don't have to drive far to find beautiful locations. Whether you're after open green spaces, lakeside views, tree-lined paths, or something a little more modern, there are plenty of great spots within a short drive of Dr Phillips.
Here are some of my favourite locations for family photography around the area, along with the best time to visit and a few tips on what photographs well.
1. Cypress Grove Park
Cypress Grove Park is one of the most popular locations for family photography near Dr Phillips, and it's easy to see why. The park has large oak trees, walking paths, open fields, and a beautiful white mansion overlooking the lake. It gives plenty of variety without needing to walk very far.
The light here is especially beautiful during golden hour, about an hour before sunset, when everything softens and the trees create a warm backdrop.
Best time for photos: One hour before sunset.
What to wear: Soft neutral colors, earth tones, creams, greens, or muted pinks all work well. Try to avoid bright neon colours or large logos, as they can pull attention away from everyone's faces.
2. Dr. P. Phillips Community Park
If you have younger children who like to move around, this park offers lots of open space without feeling overcrowded. The walking paths, lake views, and mature trees make it a relaxed setting for natural family photos.
Because it's close to home for many Dr Phillips families, it's also a convenient option for evening sessions after work or school.
Best time for photos: Late afternoon into sunset.
What to wear: Neutral colours with subtle texture work really well here. Linen, cotton, and simple dresses or button-down shirts photograph beautifully.
3. Kraft Azalea Garden
Although it's about 25 minutes away, Kraft Azalea Garden in Winter Park is worth the drive if you're looking for a quieter setting.
The towering cypress trees, lakeside views, and famous columned area give the location a timeless feel without looking overly formal. It's particularly beautiful for families with toddlers because there's room to explore naturally.
Best time for photos: Sunrise or the final hour before sunset.
What to wear: Light neutrals, sage green, beige, cream, soft browns, or dusty blues all complement the scenery.
4. Celebration
Celebration has become one of the most requested locations for family photography near Orlando. The colourful homes, lakeside boardwalk, brick streets, and mature oak trees give plenty of variety within a short walk.
It works especially well if you're looking for a mix of natural and charming neighbourhood backgrounds.
Best time for photos: Sunset, particularly in autumn and winter when the light falls nicely through the trees.
What to wear: Soft colour palettes always photograph best. Coordinating outfits work much better than everyone wearing identical clothes.
5. Bill Frederick Park at Turkey Lake
If you're looking for somewhere that feels tucked away from the city without driving far from Dr Phillips, Bill Frederick Park at Turkey Lake is a great choice. Sitting on 183 acres along Turkey Lake, the park offers lakeside views, mature oak trees, wooden docks, open fields, and quiet walking trails, giving plenty of variety for a family photography session.
One of the things I like most about this location is how spacious it feels. Children have room to run, explore, and just be themselves, which often leads to the most natural family photographs.
Best time for photos: The hour before sunset. The light filters beautifully through the trees and across the lake, especially during the cooler months.
What to wear: Earth tones, creams, olive green, rust, soft blues, and linen textures work really well here. Since the location is very natural, simple outfits tend to suit it best.
6. Dr. Phillips Center for the Performing Arts
If you're looking for something a little different from the usual park setting, the Dr. Phillips Center for the Performing Arts offers a clean, modern backdrop in downtown Orlando. The contemporary architecture, wide staircases, glass walls, and open plaza create a timeless look that feels polished without being overly formal.
This location works particularly well for families with older children or teenagers, or anyone who prefers a more urban feel over trees and greenery. It's also a great option if you're planning an evening in downtown Orlando and want to include a photo session beforehand.
Because it's such a popular venue, I usually recommend weekday evenings when it's a little quieter.
Best time for photos: About an hour before sunset or just after sunset when the city lights begin to come on.
What to wear: Neutral colours, black, white, navy, soft greys, or muted earth tones all complement the modern architecture. Flowy dresses and smart casual outfits tend to photograph particularly well in this setting.
7. Downtown Dr Phillips
For families who want something a little more modern and urban, Downtown Dr Phillips is a great option. The storefronts, walkways, textured walls, seating areas, and evening lights give the photos a more polished lifestyle feel without having to go all the way into downtown Orlando.
This location works well for families with older children, teens, or anyone who wants photos that feel a little less park-like. It is also a nice choice for quick sessions because there is variety in a small area.
Best time for photos: Early evening, especially during the final hour before sunset or just after the lights come on.
What to wear: Smart casual outfits work well here. Neutrals, black, cream, denim, soft browns, and muted colours suit the urban backdrop. Try to avoid loud patterns or large logos since there is already more detail in the surroundings.
When Should You Schedule Family Photos?
Living in Central Florida means the weather can be unpredictable, especially during summer.
For most of the year, sunset sessions provide the most flattering light and cooler temperatures. During the hotter months, weekday evenings are often a little quieter than weekends.
If you're visiting Orlando on holiday, scheduling your family photos toward the beginning of your trip is often a good idea. That way, if Florida weather decides not to cooperate, there's usually room to move the session.
Looking for a Family Photographer Near Dr Phillips?
Whether you live in Dr Phillips or you're visiting Orlando on holiday, there are plenty of beautiful locations nearby for relaxed, natural family photography.
Every family is different, so choosing the right location depends on the kind of images you want to remember years from now. Some families love wide open parks where the kids can run around, while others prefer lakeside views or quieter gardens.
If you're not sure which location fits your family best, I'm always happy to recommend somewhere based on the season, your children's ages, and the style of photos you're hoping for.
Skip the Florida Heat with an Airbnb or In Home Family Photography Session in Orlando and Kissimmee
Looking for a family photographer in Orlando or Kissimmee? An Airbnb or in home lifestyle session lets you capture beautiful family memories without planning your day around the Florida heat.
If you're planning a family vacation to Orlando this summer, you've probably already noticed one thing. Florida gets hot.
Between the high temperatures, afternoon thunderstorms, and tired little ones after long days at the theme parks, squeezing in a family photo session outdoors isn't always as relaxing as you'd hoped.
The good news is that it doesn't have to be stressful and overwhelming.
One of my favorite alternatives is photographing families right where they're staying. Whether you're visiting from out of town and relaxing in a beautiful Airbnb or vacation home, or you're a local family looking for something more personal, an indoor lifestyle photography session is a wonderful way to capture genuine memories without worrying about the weather.
Perfect for Families Visiting Orlando and Kissimmee
Many families travel to Orlando, Kissimmee, Celebration, Reunion Resort, Champions Gate, and surrounding areas for a summer vacation. Your vacation home becomes part of your family's story, so why not include it in your photographs?
Imagine your family playing games together, exploring your beautiful vacation home, relaxing by the pool, cuddling on the sofa, or watching the kids simply be themselves. These are the moments that tell the story of your vacation far better than a perfectly posed photograph ever could.
These aren't stiff, posed portraits. They're real moments that you'll look back on years from now.
Because we're indoors, everyone stays comfortable, your makeup stays intact, and the kids aren't asking when they can get back into the air conditioning.
A Relaxed Option for Local Families
If you live in Orlando or Kissimmee, an in home lifestyle session is also a beautiful way to document your family.
Your home is where birthdays are celebrated, bedtime stories are read, cookies are baked, and everyday memories are made. Those little moments often become the ones you treasure most.
There's no need to pack bags, drive across town, or hope your children are in the mood after sitting in the car. We simply create photographs in the place where your family feels most comfortable.
What Happens During an In Home Session?
The goal is to keep everything natural. We will do a mixture of posed and candid shots.
We will do group photos, individual photos, kids, grandparents, couples, and capture whatever you want to capture. Then I’ll disappear and let you enjoy the rest of your day.
No Need to Plan Around the Florida Heat
One of the biggest advantages of an indoor family photography session is flexibility.
Instead of planning your entire vacation day around sunrise or sunset, you can choose a time that fits your family's schedule. If your children need an afternoon nap or you're taking a break from the theme parks, we can work around that.
You'll spend less time worrying about sweating through outfits and more time enjoying being together.
What Should We Wear?
Neutral colours, soft textures, and comfortable clothing always photograph beautifully indoors.
Creams, whites, light browns, soft greens, muted blues, and earthy tones work especially well. I recommend avoiding bright neon colours, large logos, or busy patterns so the focus stays on your family.

Life as a Special Needs Photographer: Why Patience and Compassion Matter
Life as a special needs photographer has taught me that connection comes before the camera. Patience, flexibility, and genuine compassion create the space where authentic, beautiful moments can unfold naturally.
Photography is so much more than just clicking a button, it’s about capturing the heart of a moment, the personality of a child, and the love of a family. For families with children who have special needs, the experience of being photographed can feel overwhelming. That’s where patience and compassion come in, and why I’ve made it my mission to create a safe, joyful space for every child in front of my lens.
A Personal Perspective
This part of my work is deeply personal to me. As a mom of a child on the autism spectrum, I understand firsthand the challenges that come with new environments, unfamiliar faces, sensory sensitivities, and the unpredictability of a photo session. I know what it’s like to worry about whether or not my child cooperate? Will they smile? Will they be understood? Are we being a burden?
These aren’t just abstract questions to me. They’re ones I’ve asked myself as a parent many, many times. That’s why I approach every family I photograph with empathy, flexibility, and patience. I see your child for who they are, not for how still they sit or how long they smile at the camera.
Why Patience Makes All the Difference
Every child is unique, and some need more time to warm up. That’s why I build extra time into my sessions, allow kids to take breaks, and let them explore the environment at their own pace. There’s no “rush” with me, because genuine smiles and true personalities can’t be forced.
I also adapt to each child’s comfort level. Sometimes that means photographing while they play, sometimes it means letting them hold a favorite toy, and other times it means being silly right alongside them to earn a grin. The key is patience, meeting kids where they are, instead of asking them to conform to a rigid plan.
Compassion Creates Comfort
Compassion is the bridge between the photographer and the family. I know how important it is for parents to feel supported during a session, too. I reassure families that meltdowns are okay, that laughter counts as much as stillness, and that the little in-between moments often make the best photos.
I don’t care if your little one has a meltdown, I don’t care if we take longer than planned. It’s okay!!! Life’s hard enough without someone else making you feel guilty or rushed. Feeling like a burden is the worst feeling in the world, so I want my clients to know that they are safe with me.
When families leave a session feeling relieved, encouraged, and seen. That’s when I know I’ve done my job. The photos are beautiful, yes, but the experience is just as important.
Why This Work Matters
Photography is about more than images, it’s about memories. Families with special needs children deserve portraits that reflect the joy, resilience, and individuality of their stories.
Some of my favorite photoshoots have been with families of neurodivergent children. I have witnessed parents cry tears of joy when they saw their images. I have seen parents laugh and play with their children, creating beautiful memories because they felt comfortable enough to truly have fun in front of my camera. That trust and comfort is why they return to me whenever they need photos. Together, we share nothing but joy and giggles during our sessions, and those families are the heart of why I do what I do.

How to Make Family Photos Inclusive and Stress-Free for Kids with Special Needs
Family photos should feel joyful, not overwhelming. With patience, preparation, and a flexible approach, sessions can be inclusive, calm, and empowering for children with special needs — and meaningful for the entire family.
Family photos are a cherished way to capture moments in time, celebrating love, connection, and growth. For families with children who have special needs, the idea of a photoshoot can come with unique considerations. Every child has their own way of experiencing the world, and with thoughtful preparation and the right approach, it’s entirely possible to create an environment where everyone feels comfortable and included. Here are some tips to make your family photo experience stress-free and enjoyable for all.
1. Choose a Photographer Who Understands
Finding a photographer with experience working with children with special needs can make all the difference. They will understand the importance of patience, flexibility, and creating a sensory-friendly environment. When researching photographers, look for someone who communicates openly, listens to your concerns, and has a warm, empathetic approach. Having a little one with Autism, I really appreciate adults who have compassion and patience with her!
2. Plan Ahead and Communicate
Preparation is key for a successful photoshoot. Share important details with your photographer beforehand, such as:
Your child’s sensory sensitivities (e.g., noise, touch, or bright lights).
Any triggers or behaviors to avoid.
Things that make your child feel calm, happy, or safe.
Preferred poses or activities that align with your child’s comfort level.
This information allows the photographer to tailor the session to your family’s unique needs.
3. Pick the Right Location
The setting of your photoshoot can greatly impact your child’s comfort level. Consider:
Outdoor locations with open space, natural light, and minimal distractions.
Familiar spaces, such as your home or a favorite park, where your child feels at ease.
Quiet times of the day to avoid crowds and overstimulation.
4. Keep the Schedule Flexible
Rigid timelines can add unnecessary stress. It’s totally okay to ask your photographer for a quick break to decompress and re-fuel with snacks. We really don’t mind. If it helps the outcome of the photos and keeps everyone happy, we are all for it! Slow and steady wins the race!
5. Bring Comfort Items
Familiar objects, such as a favorite toy, blanket, or sensory tool, can provide reassurance and help your child feel secure. Incorporating these items into the session can also make the photos more personal and meaningful.
6. Focus on Authentic Moments
Rather than striving for perfectly posed pictures, embrace candid moments that reflect your family’s true dynamic. Let your child’s personality shine, whether that means playful laughter, a quiet hug, or a favorite activity. Most of my clients end up preferring the playful, candid photos over the posed ones.
7. Celebrate Progress, Not Perfection
It’s important to approach the session with realistic expectations. Celebrate small victories, like a shared smile or a calm moment, rather than focusing on achieving a flawless outcome. Every photo will be a treasured memory because it’s a reflection of your unique family.
8. Create a Positive Experience
Before the session, talk to your child about what to expect and keep the mood light and positive. If possible, involve them in the planning process, such as picking out outfits or choosing props. Celebrate their participation and make the day feel like a fun family activity rather than a chore.
Let’s Create Lasting Memories Together
Family photos are about celebrating the beauty of your family, just as it is. With the right preparation and mindset, your session can be a joyful and inclusive experience that captures your family’s love and connection. Remember: You are not a burden. Your child is not a burden. I know what it’s like to worry about how my child’s behavior affects other people and I can promise you this, you will never need to feel that way during one of our sessions. I specialize in working with families of all kinds, including those with special needs. With years of experience and a deep understanding of Autism Spectrum Disorder, ADHD, and Sensory Processing Disorder, I create a compassionate and stress-free environment tailored to your family’s needs.
